Discover our Culture clubs

Discover the world of culture at University of Antwerp! Our Culture Societies are the beating heart of creativity, expression and artistic development on campus.

Would you like to show off your talents on a musical instrument? Then you will probably find a connection with the Antwerpse StudentenharmonieSymphonic City Sounds or KLAANK.
Are you passionate about theatre and acting? Then there is definitely a place for you at De Bromvlieg or at De Mimosaurus.

Do you like to sing in the shower and far beyond? Then no doubt they would love to see you join the Universitair Koor.

Lots of choice, indeed! That is why we would like to introduce them to you one by one:

The University Choir Antwerpen (UKA) meets weekly to rehearse and work towards one of two performances during the academic year: a Christmas concert in December and a spring concert in May. They are also regularly requested for special events such as proclamations, Christmas markets and the opening celebration at the beginning of the new academic year.
Dirk De Nef, a teacher at LUCA School of Arts, tries to teach the choir new work in an amusing way and adds a dose of vocal training.
The choir rehearses every Tuesday from 18:30 to 21:30 (with intermission) in Princess16.

De Bromvlieg is the theater company of the University of Antwerp, founded and led by students.
The company wants to be a low-threshold and open place, where every student can get the chance to play theater. Therefore, they create enough space for new participants through auditions every academic year.

Each year (in June), the core group of De Bromvlieg selects a director and his proposed project. The director then searches for suitable actors through auditions (in October) and further directs the project, supported by the core group.

The Bromvlieg rehearses every Wednesday between 18:30 and 21:00 in Princess16

A toothbrush, Iron Man and a pack of condoms.
You might be wondering what these three things have in common. Well, nothing.
In improvisational theatre, however, this could just be the beginning of an intriguing scene.
The best is yet to come: because YOU can be part of such amazing scenes!

The Mimosaurus is first and foremost a student association for improvisational theatre, but it is also a close group of friends. Every week, they play the funniest, most moving and fierce stories, built from scratch.
During the training, all kinds of games related to improvisational theatre are used to polish up the improvisational skills, but above all it is a lot of fun and laughter.
The training sessions are given free and for nothing by real improvisation experts and every now and then a well-known Fleming is invited.
This is how De Mimosaurus prepares itself for the highlight of the year: the performances. Although participating in these is certainly not a must (so don't let this put you off)!

De Mimosaurus is much more than just improv theatre, it is a close-knit group of friends who, after training, like to go to the pub together, step out into the world or have a summer picnic in the park. They also organise a team-building activity and a mimeo weekend every year!

So do you love theatre? Do you want to make new friends? Or do you just want to come and train with them once to see if improvisational theatre is your thing? Be welcome at The Mimosaur, every Wednesday night between 20:00 and 22:00 in Princess16. See you soon!

Symphonic City Sounds is a symphonic orchestra that enriches cultural student life in Antwerp and wants to create an opportunity for string, wind and percussion players to pursue their hobby and passion in a student-like environment. So the week is ushered in musically and (with a drink afterwards) cheerfully!
The orchestra rehearses on Sunday evenings between 19:00 and 21:00 in Princess16 throughout the academic year.

No professional level of musicians is expected, but some mastery of the instrument is required. About third grade in Part-time Art Education is a good guideline. Not sure of your level? You are always welcome to come and give it a try!

Besides having fun at rehearsals (and at the pub afterwards), we also organise other activities together. Taking in a concert together at the Queen Elisabeth Hall or the Opera, playing board games together... the possibilities are endless and suggestions are certainly welcome!
