The Making Of Pinocchio - Cade & MacAskill
Friday 21st of november
The Making of Pinocchio is a funny, clever and thoughtful two-hander, rich in playful imagery and direct-to-camera asides, about identity, definition and acceptance. The Guardian
Pinocchio, the lying puppet who wants to become a real boy, is a queer icon. At least, that's what artists Rosana Cade and Ivor MacAskill think. The lovers saw similarities between the experiences of the puppet and those of MacAskill, who began his own transition during the creative process of this hybrid performance. The Scottish duo uses the well-known fairy tale to challenge entrenched ideas about authenticity. After all, why do some people have to prove that they are “real”?
In a playful and joyful experiment with live recordings, digital manipulation and ingenious scenography, The Making of Pinocchio offers an intimate glimpse into a personal love story, as well as an imaginative approach to the visibility and threats faced by transgender people. A revealing, joyful evening for everyone. No lie.
